If you must do it try to install some serious flashing between the wood and concrete such as ice and water barrier protected by aluminum that goes well below any wood and up under the siding. Ca code certainly calls for 2 clearance to concrete patio with stucco. Large roof overhangs can provide protection in some cases. For this specific situation i would rather see the concrete poured against the cement siding which goes all the way down to the bottom. The siding should be 4 8 inches above the surface of the concrete.
The gravel is about now 3 4 inches up the siding as you can see in pictures. This does not answer how close siding should be to the grade but foundation above grade is more important. Editorial advisor mike guertin replies. I used crushed gravel as a base for patio.
